Noe Valley sits in a pocket the fog keeps missing, which is most of why San Franciscans talk about it the way they do — a sunny village folded into the city, with a high street and a hill of Victorians and not much that needs doing. This walk takes it at a stroll.
Start at the top of 24th Street where the J-Church sets you down, and walk the strip east: the bakeries, the cheese shop, the children's stores that gave the neighbourhood its gentle reputation, and the Town Square that fills with a farmers' market on Saturdays. Then drop off the high street onto the residential blocks — Jersey, Elizabeth, Fair Oaks — quiet streets of bay-windowed Victorians pitched steeply enough to slow your legs. Climb a few blocks south for the long view back over the Mission and downtown, which arrives before you reach any summit.
End by walking down and east out of the village toward 24th and Mission, where the sun-trap gives way to the busy corridor and the BART takes you home.
